Chance the Rapper raises over $100,000 for charity at birthday party in Chicago

That’s one heck of a way to throw a party, big fella.
Chance the Rapper celebrated turning 24 on Sunday by raising more than $100,000 for charity with a sold-out event dubbed “Chance the Birthday” at Chicago’s Studio Paris
Proceeds from the bash went to SocialWorks, a nonprofit co-founded by the three-time Grammy winner whose mission is “to empower the youth through arts, education, and civic engagement.
”The blowout featured performances by fellow rappers Ludacris and T-Pain, plus an appearance by Sesame Street’s Big Bird.
One highlight was a custom birthday cake made to look like a double-decker Harold’s Chicken bucket and a bottle of kiwi-strawberry Mistic — references Chance has dropped in his lyrics.
Sunday’s generosity comes after the rapper born Chancellor Bennett made headlines in March, when he criticized Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner and donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools.
“This isn’t about politics. This isn’t about posturing. This about taking care of the kids,” the artist said then.
Chance the Rapper will continue to tour North America this spring, and is scheduled to perform at several music festivals, including Governors Ball, Firefly, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.
