On May 31st, Daniel Ek (CEO of Spotify) admitted that the company misgoverned how it broadcasted plans to erase R.Kelly and other musicians’ music.
Spotify released a statement that they have created a new policy on hate speech and offensive conduct, along with removing R. Kelly’s music from their playlists on May 10th. R.Kelly has been publicly accused of sexual misconduct against a numerous amount of women. This announcement caused a significant backfire from the public; even some Spotify users disagree with this decision.
"The whole goal with this was to make sure that we didn't have hate speech on the service. It was never about punishing one individual. We rolled this out wrong, and we could have done a much better job." – Daniel Ek
