The Recording Industry Association of America declared that a new Album Award technique for its Gold and Platinum Program, the industry’s leading award for acknowledging artists and their achievements.
“For nearly six decades, whether it’s vinyl, CDs, downloads or now streams, the Gold & Platinum Program has adapted to recognize the benchmarks of success in an evolving music marketplace.” – Cary Sherman, Chairman, and CEO, RIAA
After analyzing categories of factors, the RIAA created this technique of 1,500 on-demand audio/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale.
